Fail-open by law

On power loss or evacuation the wings release to a free-passage state, as EN 17352 requires for escape routes — safety that is engineered in, not added on.

What is a speed gate?

A speed gate is a motorised pedestrian barrier with frameless glass wings that open on authorisation and close behind each person. It is the fastest form of entrance control, designed for lobbies where appearance and throughput both matter.

How fast is a Keyable speed gate?

The published open cycle is 0.7 seconds, adjustable, giving a throughput of up to 50 people per minute per lane. Figures as published by the manufacturer, September 2025.

Do speed gates open automatically in a power cut?

Yes. Under EN 17352, motorised pedestrian barriers on escape routes must leave the way out clear. Keyable speed gates release their wings to free passage on power loss and remain open.

What credentials can a speed gate read?

QR codes from a screen or paper, NFC and RFID, through an integrated reader panel. Communication with the access platform is over TCP/IP or HTTP.
